Stop smoking
How many times have you been told you need to quit smoking because it's bad for you? I smoked for 25 years and heard it all the time. Though these statements are made with good intentions they typically fall on deaf ears to someone who enjoys lighting up one of these cancer sticks.
Smokers seem to think that the problems associated with smoking will not affect them. They are invisible and it's always someone else who will get cancer or a disease caused by smoking. That's human nature to feel this way I guess. Regardless of how you feel, nobody is immune to the problems associated with smoking.
Here are few reasons why you should consider giving up those cigarettes
- Your Health - It has to be said again. Smoking causes lung cancer, cardiovascular diseases, Coronary thrombosis, and Cerebral thrombosis. Other cancers associated with smoking are bladder cancer, cervical cancer, cancer of the kidneys, cancer of the pancreas, and cancer of the esophagus. This is just a small list of problems associated with smoking.
- Health Of Your Loved Ones - It is now known that second hand smoke is more harmful than directly inhaled smoke. Who does this affect? Anyone around you when you smoke, especially children. Children who grow up in a home with a smoker in the house are 50% more likely to develop asthma, asthmatic bronchitis, allergies, and respiratory infections.
- Health Insurance - If you smoke you will be paying several hundred dollars more for your coverage than someone who is a non smoker. This money saved can be used for more important things during these rough economic times.
- Expense - The cost of purchasing a pack of cigarettes is getting higher all the time. The days of spending a couple of dollars per pack are gone. It costs as much as 5 bucks a pack now and even higher in some states. If you just smoke 1 pack a day that's 150 dollars you can keep for yourself every month.
- Inconvenience - With more and more public facilities banning cigarette smoking the places you can go that allow smoking are becoming few and far between. These smoking bans are in place to protect the non smoker from inhaling second hand smoke. When I smoked I didn't care what other people thought and felt I should be allowed to smoke when and where I wanted. After I quit I now see the side from a non smokers point of view.
As you can see smoking is not only harmful to yourself, but most importantly it harms the people you care about.
If you are ready to stop smoking and don't know what steps you should take to help you break your habit...
